Meridian Middle School

Students will have the chance to purchase slices of Casey's cheese pizza through another Hawk Buck raffle this week. Signs ups will take place Monday - Thursday with 30 names being randomly drawn and announced on Friday. Track conditioning will begin on Tuesday for students interested in getting a jump start on the season. It will take place from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Join us for Pack the Place night on Tuesday and we recognize our 8th graders along volleyball members and their parents. Help us cheer on the Lady Hawks when they play Decatur Catholic! The 6th grade game will begin at 5:00 p.m. Walking tacos will be available to purchase to help fund this year's Washington DC trip. Good luck to our volleyball and Scholastic Bowl teams when they compete this week. Go Hawks!

The MMS volleyball game scheduled for today against Mt. Zion will be played in the Meridian High School gym. The 7th grade game will begin at 4:00 p.m. Go Hawks!

Tonight, these seniors will take the floor one final time here on their home court. Please come out to support their last night as we take on Shelbyville.

The JV game starts at 6:00 and will have shortened minutes. So please keep that in mind as we will celebrate our seniors in-between the JV game and Varsity games.

The Student Council Valentine's Day Dance is this Friday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the MMS gym! Students are encouraged to dress nice. The dance is free to attend, but there will be concession items available for purchase and a picture opportunity. Because of the dance, Friday's MMS volleyball games will be played in the High School gym starting at 4:00 p.m.

Tonight's scholastic bowl meet has to be moved to tomorrow (2/11) due to a water main break at Warrensburg. The team plans to practice after school today until 3:45 p.m. .

There is no school tomorrow (Monday) for Lincoln's birthday. Student Council will be selling candy grams during the lunch periods on Tuesday - Thursday. Candy grams will be delivered during study hall on Friday. There will be a track informational meeting during study hall on Wednesday for students interested in participating in track this spring. Track conditioning will begin on the 17th. Please contact either coach with questions (houserm@meridianhawks.net and holsapplea@meridianhawks.net). 3rd quarter midterm reports will be sent home on Wednesday with students earning a below average grade in any of the core subject. The Student Council sponsored Valentine dance is on Friday in the MMS gym from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The dance is free to attend, but there will be concession items and a picture opportunity to purchase. The IESA will be rewarding students of Central IL who excel academically this semester by offering one FREE ticket to Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari this summer. The ticket redemption window will be May 1 - June 30, 2026. This is a great incentive for our MMS students to keep working hard this winter!

Tomorrow (Wednesday, February 4) is a 1:30 p.m. dismissal for School Improvement. Please make sure all transportation changes are made for the day prior to students coming to school!

Congratulations to our top individual IXL finalists who mastered A LOT of skills during the month of January! For ELA, Sophia W, Harper M, and Emersyn W mastered a combined 121 skills. We had 97 students meet the IXL goal of adding at least 10 points to their diagnostic ELA score. For math, Harper R, Kynleigh G, and Emersyn W mastered a combined total of 136 skills. 100 students met the IXL goal of adding at least 10 points to their diagnostic math score. Keep growing, Hawks!

This past weekend Meridian hosted the state series for class 2A 7th grade boys' basketball. It was a jam packed Saturday with lots of great visitors and many community members coming together to make the day a success. We were not able to catch everyone who helped, but the event would not have been possible without many members from Hawk Nation helping along the way. For that we are grateful and thankful!!

Hosting this event makes us extremely proud of our school. As visitors walked through there were many complements about our facilities and people. It is a great reminder for me to NOT take our school for granted. This is an awesome place with awesome people!

Students worked on becoming proficient (80% or higher) on IXL during the 1st semester of the year and are now working towards mastery (100%) during the 2nd semester. These two classes really kicked it in and were up for the challenge to gain possession of our IXL trophies for the month! Congratulations to Mrs. Moyer's 1st hour English class! They earned the ELA IXL trophy by mastering, on average, 7.7 skills per student in January. Congratulations to Mrs. Houser's 4th hour math class on earning the trophy for back-to-back months (December & January)! On average, they mastered 4.9 skills per student in January. Keep mastering those skills, Hawks!

We had 95 students with Perfect Attendance at MMS during the month of January! These students will receive either a sweet or salty treat during the lunch period today. Keep making attendance a priority, Hawks!

Wednesday, February 4 is a 1:30 p.m. dismissal for school improvement. It's hard to believe that Friday is midterm for the 3rd quarter! Midterm reports will be sent home with students receiving below average grades in any core class on Wednesday, February 11. There is no school on Monday, February 9 for Lincoln's birthday. Looking ahead - The Student Council Valentine dance will take place on Friday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the MMS gym.
