On Sunday, January 11, 4 Lady Hawks represented MMS at the Girls Jr. High All-Star Basketball Game. Attison M, Jensen D, Mila W & Kaia A represented us well. Both 7th and 8th grade teams won and all 4 of our girls had contributions to the wins! Thank you to SkyWalker International Sports Complex for hosting the event and inviting us to participate!

Meridian athletics would like to thank Matt Roush with "Signature Sign and Lighting " and "Glenda Williamson," for his donation for our End of the Month Athletic Attendance Drawing.

If you are a Meridian student and come to a game, go the the concession stand, write your name on a ticket, and put it in the container. The more games you attend the better your chances. This month's winners are...
MES: Dewy G. & Kamden R.
MMS: Anna F. & Cali S.
MHS: Emily M. & Ava M.

This month's winners each received a $25 gift certificate to Krekels. Be sure to save room for the ice cream!

Thanks a bunch Matt Roush for your sponsorship!

The classroom IXL competition continues after the "bragging rights" trophies were presented for skills completed during the month of December. Mrs. Houser's 4th hour 8th grade math class took possession of the math trophy for the first time. They might be a small group, but their average skill proficiency level was impressive - 15.1 skills! Mrs. Rhoades' 7th hour 6th grade Literature group wasn't ready to give that ELA trophy up, so they held on to if for another month by becoming proficient on 20.9 skills (on average).

Hawk Nation, the lady in this picture is Jenny. She is the person you see in the halls during our HS sporting events keeping things clean and orderly so we can enjoy our beautiful facility. What many of you may not know, is that when all the noise and all the action is over after the game, the gym gets strangely quiet and empty. That is when she goes to work picking up many of our popcorn bags and water bottles. She gets the bleachers clean and the floor swept while the rest of the community makes our journey home reflecting on the game. She does a great job of making sure when the kids get back in the morning, the gym looks like it is brand new and it doesn't even look like we had a game in it the night before. We are so thankful for her. Again, her name is Jenny and please help her by reminding our students to pick up the concession items once they become trash. We can all work together to make our community stronger. THANK YOU, Jenny, for your quiet service. WE SEE YOU!

Friday night was a BIG night at Meridian. Our neighboring district CAM came to town for our annual Cakes for the Cause Night. Seniors from both schools made a cake so community members could bid on the tasty treats during a live auction. Leading up to the night, the annual event had raised just under $60,000 combined since the event started in 2016. Well, on Friday night, the event shattered the record with a grand total of just under $16,000. Included in this total was the donations made upon entrance, the cake auction, and the donations made during the "Miracle Minute" in-between the 3rd and 4th quarters. CAM and Meridian school districts are so humbled by the generosity of our two communities. It was a FANTASTIC display of generosity. CAM will donate to a Saint Louis Children's Heart Hospital and Meridian will donate to local families in need and crisis. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! (We sadly weren't able to get pictures of each senior, but attached are a few cakes on display.)

On a side note we would also like to thank Auctioneer Jeff Foulks out of Blue Mound for volunteering to handle the auction duties.

The icing on top for Meridian was that the boys were able to secure the win at the end of the game. It was a great effort for both teams and both communities!

We live in a special place....thankful to be a part of it!

Our students received their new schedules last week and have started the second semester off strong! We will have our VIP fundraiser luncheon on Friday. This was rescheduled from our snow day last month. In addition, 7th & 8th graders will receive their movie experience reward as a part of the MJHS food drive incentive. Good luck to our boys basketball teams when they continue tournament play this week and to our Lady Hawks when they compete. Make plans to check out one of their home games. Go Hawks!
