Meridian Middle School

We had a packed auditorium for tonight's MMS (beginner & intermediate) & MHS band concert. All 3 bands did a terrific job performing a variety of holiday songs under the direction of Dr. Chris Raymond. We hope everyone left feeling ready for Christmas!

Volleyball tryouts for MMS are currently underway! Tryout time for the remainder of the week are below.

Wednesday - 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Thursday - 2:45 - 5:00 p.m.
Friday - 2:45 - 5:00 p.m.

**Please note that the time for Friday has been adjusted due to one of our boys' basketball games getting rescheduled.

As we get closer to Christmas break, you just never know who will show up around our halls!

Don’t forget, 7th & 8th graders will take semester exams on Wednesday, December 17 and Thursday, December 18. Friday, December 19 is a 1:30 p.m. dismissal. A modified schedule will be followed all 3 days. If your child will miss exams, please make sure we know in advance so they can take finals before break!

MS Volleyball begins practice /tryouts this week.

Volleyball tryouts for interested 6th - 8th graders begin tomorrow from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the MMS gym. All participants must have an updated physical on file prior to trying out. Please reach out to Coach Kirby with questions. Auditions for the MMS Drama Club will take place on Monday and Tuesday. Students interested in auditioning for a role in this year's play should sign up for one slot. The MMS & MHS Christmas band concert is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. This is a free event that the community is invited to attend! There will be an informational meeting on Thursday during study hall for students interested in trying out for Scholastic Bowl. The VIP fundraiser incentive lunch will take place on Friday for students who qualified. Good luck to our boys' basketball teams when they compete this week. Go Hawks!

Scholastic Bowl tryouts will take place when we return from Christmas break. There will be an informational meeting during study hall next week in Mrs. S Moyer's room. Our 7th grade team picked up a big win last night against Monticello.

The friendly competition for possession of the IXL "bragging rights" trophy continues... Mrs. Houser's 1st hour 7th graders gained possession of the math trophy again with an average of 9.5 skills proficient. Mrs. Rhoades' 7th hour 6th graders gained possession of the ELA trophy again with an average of 18.5 skills proficient. A big shout out to all of the students who are working hard to contribute to each Leaderboard!

Congratulations to our students who finished on the top of the IXL Leaderboards for the month of November (by becoming proficient in math and ELA skills), but an even bigger shout out to ALL of the students who met their monthly goal of gaining at least 10 points in the diagnostic arena! We had 96 students meet the monthly goal in math and 102 students meet the monthly goal in ELA!

Leaderboard have been reset for the month of December!

The MMS & MHS chorus concert, under the direction of Mr. Anderson, put on a wonderful Christmas performance for the community tonight. Several soloists were featured throughout the pieces. It was a great way to kick off the holiday season!

We have a 1:30 p.m. dismissal tomorrow (Wednesday, December 3) for school improvement. With study hall being shortened, please make sure your child is aware of any transportation changes prior to coming to school.

Tonight's scheduled basketball games have been postponed due to the weather. The 8th grade girls' IESA Regional basketball game has been rescheduled for tomorrow (7:00 p.m. at Salt Fork). The updated Regional bracket can be found on the IESA website.

Volleyball tryouts for our Lady Hawks are coming up! If your child is interested in trying out, make sure to mark your calendars. All participants must have an updated physical on file prior to tryouts!

We had 96 students with perfect attendance during the month of November - That's 4 more than last month! We are proud of our students for continuing to make attendance a priority as the year progresses. Tomorrow starts a new (but short!) month of school... Let's finish 2025 strong, MMS!

Our final raffle ticket of the November Cash Raffle was drawn by Lilly H. for $25. Congratulations to Roy Holdman!! Thank you for supporting our students this year during our fundraiser.

A big thank you, once again, goes out to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket from our students this fall. Because of this fundraiser, we are able to provide a lot of various activities, incentives, and supplies for our entire student body to benefit from! We are very thankful for the support!

There will be a Drama Club workshop after school on Monday until 3:45 p.m. This is optional, but is a great opportunity for students interested in auditioning for this year's play to learn some audition tips. Students will meet in Mrs. E Moyer's room after dismissal. Questions can be emailed to moyere@meridianhawks.net.

The MMS/MHS Christmas Chorus Concert is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the MMS gym. This will be following the MES Christmas Concert that will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the MES gym. If you are attending the MMS/MHS concert, please part in the MMS/Baseball parking lot and enter through the MMS doors.

We are looking to add a Robotics team at Meridian to compete in the First Tech Challenge league next year. 7th and 8th grader interested in taking this elective class and participating in this team for next year should complete the Google Form that was emailed prior to Thanksgiving break. In addition, there will be an informational meeting on Thursday during study hall where more info will be provided. Questions can be emailed to obrienm@meridianhawks.net.
