Congratulations to all of our students who made the Academic Honors recognition list for the 3rd quarter! All of the students on Principal's List will receive donuts and juice before school one day next week. Keep learning, Hawks!

Students will dismiss at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) to kick off our Spring Break. There is no student attendance on Thursday, April 2 - Monday, April 6.

Friday is the last day to order your copy of this year's MMS yearbook! This is pre-order only, so there may not be extra copies available when they are delivered in May!

There is a FFA meeting during study hall on Tuesday for current members to vote for next year's officers.

Wednesday is a 1:30 p.m. dismissal. Students will participate in a variety of enrichment activity stations that have been planned by our teachers to celebrate their hard work during IAR and ISA testing weeks.

There is no school on Thursday, April 2, Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6 for Spring Break!

Here is this week's athletic schedule for the MS.

Congratulations to the following artists: 6th Grade: Emersyn Wells, Ella Sheets, Ryleigh Mehrer, Henry Roush, Reyna Gaddis, Molly Kraft, Wren Pfeiffer, Wiley Rhodes, Zane Warnsley, Sophia Wells, Caleb Smithers, Bryley Booth, Jerzee Grider, and Elaina Kater. 7th Grade: Addi Bernard, Kyndall Gillen, Levi Henderson, and Brayden Moretti 8th Grade: Matthew Pritts, Karlie Sinnard, Jensen Dawson, Autumn Allard, Hayden Crist, and Caitlin Burgess Their work is currently on display at the Decatur Arts Council 3rd Floor Gallery (Madden Arts Center) for the Young Artists Showcase. The exhibit will run from March 25th to April 10th. April 10th will be the "Closing" as well as when the awards are presented (6:00). Please stop by sometime during business hours and see all the wonderful artwork from Meridian and surrounding schools!

8th graders will take the Illinois Science Assessment during class this week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Please make sure to remind them to charge those Chromebooks and bring either headphones or wired earbuds to school. If your child is interested in playing boys' basketball for MMS next year, don't forget to join the SportsYou group for information on open gym opportunities. The join code is RR8E - P984. Mr. Bates will continue to collect donation items for the Humane Society this week. Check out the provided flyer for needed items. All donations can be dropped off in Mr. Bates' room for Hawk Bucks! It's also not too late to send in donations for the American Heart Challenge to raise awareness and funds for congenital heart defects, nutrition security, CPR training, mental well-being & more. Our students get the extra benefit of combining our heart challenge with our skating unit that will continue this week. Skating is a fantastic aerobic exercise that offers a low-impact, lifelong, full-body workout that strengthens the heart, improves blood circulation, & burns over 600 calories per hour. One more week of practice before track meets begin.... Go Hawks!

Friday, March 20 is an 11:10 a.m. dismissal for teacher in-service. Please make sure any transportation changes have been made in advance.

To wrap up the pickleball unit in PE, students competed in a round robin tournament in each class to find out which pairs advanced to the school-wide tournament. Congratulations to this year's pickleball champs - William P and Elijah D!

3rd quarter grades have been finalized and are now available on TeacherEase! A copy of the report card has been printed and will also be sent home with all MMS students this afternoon. It's hard to believe that the 4th quarter has started. Let's finish the year strong, Hawks!

As we transition back to outdoor sports (weather permitting) today, I have to give a big THANK YOU shout out to some very important people. Thank you to both Mr. & Mrs. Britton for all they do for our student athletes! It's no secret that Mr. Britton brings his energy to leading Hawk Nation, but there is a lot that happens behind the scenes that involves them both (tournament hospitality, fan buses, pep assemblies, spirit wear... just to name a few). Thank you to Mrs. Ray and her bus drivers for always going along with any idea we throw their way! At any event, you will usually find our drivers up in the stands cheering our athletes on. They are some of our biggest fans! Thank you to Mrs. Miller for helping to keep our athletic & official calendars straight! Thank you for all you do for our Hawks and community!

The 4th quarter kicks off tomorrow - Monday, March 16! Report cards for the 3rd quarter will be provided to all students on Wednesday. Track practice officially kicks off tomorrow from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. IAR makeup testing will begin on Tuesday. Students who were absent last week will complete the testing during a designate time. If you have a 8th grade student, 9th grade orientation is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Please make sure your child and at least one parent attends. Questions can be sent to hurelbrinke@meridianhawks.net. Friday is an 11:10 a.m. dismissal for teacher in-service. Music Bingo is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the MMS gym on Friday. Make plans to come out and support this Music Booster fundraiser! Good luck to our students attending the IESA Solo & Ensemble on Saturday! Go Hawks!

If you didn't catch opening night, you have another chance to attend "Twice Upon a Time" tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are available at the door. The cast and crew did a great job!

A big congratulations goes to Maxine P. for MAXING OUT on IXL in ELA! To "max out" means that she achieved a diagnostic level of 1300.... equivalent to a high school senior level! Way to work hard, Maxine!

We will be sending our 7th grade volleyball team to State with an afternoon assembly tomorrow. Please encourage your child to wear their Hawk gear to celebrate our Lady Hawks!
