Meridian Middle School

Today we want to cheer on sixth grade band members Javen and RaeAnn. They have been selected to represent Meridian at the ILMEA District 5 Elementary Band Festival. They will join fifth and sixth grade band students from across twenty counties in Illinois to prepare and perform an all-star concert! Spring sports are right around the corner!

Join us for PACK THE PLACE night TONIGHT when the Lady Hawks take on the Decatur Catholic Bulldogs. We will be recognizing our 8th graders, along with their parents, between 7th and 8th grade games. Students going on this year's Washington DC trip will also have walking tacos available to purchase and a 50/50 raffle. We will kick off the night with our 6th grade game at 5:00 p.m.

Exciting news Hawk Nation....on Saturday Bryce Brown reached the 1,000 point club as we faced off and won against Beecher City!

Congratulations to Bryce for hitting this incredible milestone. We were able to have a more formal celebration on our home court tonight.

Students will have the chance to purchase slices of Casey's cheese pizza through another Hawk Buck raffle this week. Signs ups will take place Monday - Thursday with 30 names being randomly drawn and announced on Friday. Track conditioning will begin on Tuesday for students interested in getting a jump start on the season. It will take place from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Join us for Pack the Place night on Tuesday and we recognize our 8th graders along volleyball members and their parents. Help us cheer on the Lady Hawks when they play Decatur Catholic! The 6th grade game will begin at 5:00 p.m. Walking tacos will be available to purchase to help fund this year's Washington DC trip. Here is this week's athletic schedule for the MS.

The MMS volleyball game scheduled for today against Mt. Zion will be played in the Meridian High School gym. The 7th grade game will begin at 4:00 p.m. Go Hawks!

Tonight, these seniors will take the floor one final time here on their home court. Please come out to support their last night as we take on Shelbyville.

The JV game starts at 6:00 and will have shortened minutes. So please keep that in mind as we will celebrate our seniors in-between the JV game and Varsity games.

The Student Council Valentine's Day Dance is this Friday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the MMS gym! Students are encouraged to dress nice. The dance is free to attend, but there will be concession items available for purchase and a picture opportunity. Because of the dance, Friday's MMS volleyball games will be played in the High School gym starting at 4:00 p.m.

Tonight's scholastic bowl meet has to be moved to tomorrow (2/11) due to a water main break at Warrensburg. The team plans to practice after school today until 3:45 p.m. .

There is no school tomorrow (Monday) for Lincoln's birthday. Student Council will be selling candy grams during the lunch periods on Tuesday - Thursday. Candy grams will be delivered during study hall on Friday. There will be a track informational meeting during study hall on Wednesday for students interested in participating in track this spring. Track conditioning will begin on the 17th. Please contact either coach with questions (houserm@meridianhawks.net and holsapplea@meridianhawks.net). 3rd quarter midterm reports will be sent home on Wednesday with students earning a below average grade in any of the core subject. The IESA will be rewarding students of Central IL who excel academically this semester by offering one FREE ticket to Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari this summer. The ticket redemption window will be May 1 - June 30, 2026. This is a great incentive for our MMS students to keep working hard this winter!

Tomorrow (Wednesday, February 4) is a 1:30 p.m. dismissal for School Improvement. Please make sure all transportation changes are made for the day prior to students coming to school!

Congratulations to our top individual IXL finalists who mastered A LOT of skills during the month of January! For ELA, Sophia W, Harper M, and Emersyn W mastered a combined 121 skills. We had 97 students meet the IXL goal of adding at least 10 points to their diagnostic ELA score. For math, Harper R, Kynleigh G, and Emersyn W mastered a combined total of 136 skills. 100 students met the IXL goal of adding at least 10 points to their diagnostic math score. Keep growing, Hawks!
