The Meridian School District would like to thank Blackland Transport and Kraft Family Grain for sponsoring our September athletic attendance event drawing. We also want to thank all students (and the rest of Hawk Nation) who showed support this month.
Students who attended any Meridian home game had an opportunity to write their name on a ticket and turn it in for a chance to win at the end of September. Every game attended meant more chances.
We were able to draw 4 winners from each school. Each winner won a $25 Amazon gift card.

We had 83 students get "perfect attendance" in August & September. That is 23 more students than last year at this time! These students will be treated to cookies during lunch today... just for showing up!
Daily attendance at school is so important. In fact, alarming statistics can really add up!! We will be treating students with perfect attendance each month and hope to see that attendance percentage continue to grow!

Tickets for the Meridian Middle School Awesome November Cash Raffle are AVAILABLE NOW for $10/ticket! Raffle tickets will be sold during the month of October. During the month of November, one lucky winner will be randomly drawn each day for a CASH PRIZE of either $25, $50, or $100! The payout schedule can be found on the back of each raffle ticket. Money raised from this fundraiser directly benefits our MMS students by providing supplemental classroom materials, student incentives, and so much more!

Our girls' basketball team had back to back wins last night vs AO. The 7th grade won 18-13 and our 8th grade won 25 to 17.
Be sure to come out tonight for the home opener vs Pana. The 6th grade game starts at 5:00. 7th and 8th grade will follow.

The City of Macon is applying for a federal Safe Routes to Schools grant worth up to $250,000. If successful, grant funds will be used for upgrades to sidewalks throughout Macon. We need your help to gather the necessary information to include with the grant submission. All are encouraged to complete the survey as sidewalks are used for more than just getting to and from school. At times staff members take students off campus for various reasons, so ultimately all of our students will most likely benefit from the City successfully receiving this grant.

The MMS athletic calendar ramps back up this week with Girls' Basketball! Good luck this year girls!
There will be an informational meeting with Coach Smithers on Monday during study hall for any boy interested in trying out for the MMS basketball team.
We had our 1st quarter Casey's Pizza Hawk Buck raffle last week. 30 students (10 per grade level) were randomly selected and able to purchase cheese pizza and a Pepsi product with their Hawk Bucks. It will be provided during the lunch periods on Tuesday.
Wednesday, October 1 is a 1:30 p.m. dismissal for School Improvement. Study hall is shortened that day, so transportation changes should be arranged prior to the start of school!
The MMS fall raffle fundraiser will kick off on Wednesday! All students will be provided a fundraiser envelope during 1st hour. The envelope with include 5 raffle tickets, information about the fundraiser, and a list of great incentives the students can earn by participating. Additional raffle tickets can be requested from the concession stand window before school during the month of October. Money raised directly benefits our students by allowing us to purchase supplemental classroom items, great student incentives, and so much more!

She is definitely not a new face to our hallways, but we would like to congratulate Mrs. Marion on officially being hired as the district counselor at this month's Board meeting. Mrs. Marion has been a tremendous resource and advocate for our students at Meridian since stepping into the role, and we are thrilled to have her with us full time!
Midterm of the 1st quarter was on Friday. Midterm reports are being provided this afternoon to students who are receiving a below average grade (D or F) in any of the core subjects. If your child receives a midterm report, please sign the top portion and return it to school by the end of the week. As always, please reach out to the appropriate teachers with any academic concerns so that we can work together for success!
The cheerleading clinic & tryouts for this year's MMS cheerleading squad will take place next week! All students interested in trying out must have an updated physical on file prior to participating. Questions can be emailed to Coach Comerford at comerfordc@meridianhawks.net. Go Hawks!

We were able to catch Mr. Anderson's choir class making final preparations for their big debut in Busch Stadium during tomorrow's Cardinals game. This group will be performing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch. We are proud of these kids and excited for them to represent Meridian.
Tomorrow, the Cardinals take on the Reds at 12:15.
