We are looking forward to students returning on Tuesday, January 7 for the 2nd semester! New schedules will be provided to all students during 1st hour and will reflect any class changes for the 3rd quarter.
Wednesday is a 1:30 p.m. dismissal for school improvement. 2nd quarter report cards will be provided to all students. Please note that final grades could be pending based on student attendance at the end of the quarter. Grades will be updated by teachers as soon as possible!
Scholastic Bowl Tryouts will take place on Thursday, January 9 and Friday, January 10 from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. in Mrs. S. Moyer's classroom. Interested students should only plan to attend one of the tryout dates. Please make sure transportation arrangements are made in advance and rides are available for pick up.

When our students return, they will take the MOY IXL Diagnostic Assessment to ensure levels and recommended skills are up-to-date as we head into the 2nd semester. Students have worked incredibly hard since we implemented IXL in August, and we are looking forward to seeing even more growth in the months to come. Check out the students who finished on top of the Leader Boards in December!

Beginning last April, the district began a project to upgrade all classroom instructional technology which was 9-10 years old. Funded entirely through a grant, the district has invested $165,460 and has updated 54 classrooms with new instructional technology! Lower elementary classrooms received new 85" Smartboards, while upper grade levels are utilizing 75" displays with an iPad for the interactive component.
96 students were treated to mini cans of pop or juice during lunch yesterday for having PERFECT ATTENDANCE during the month of December! As we look forward to continuing to make ATTENDANCE MATTER during the 2nd semester, we appreciate the support & encouragement at home as well!

The Hawk Buck Casey's pizza raffle for those students randomly selected will take place on Tuesday during the lunch periods. Congratulations to those who will be treated this quarter!
Auditions for Disney's Frozen Jr. will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. There are two different time slots for students interested in auditioning for either a lead or supporting role to sign up for. They should only attend one of the audition dates!
All students will do an end-of-semester locker clean out on Tuesday during study hall. Students will be encouraged to take home any clothing or extra items that have been stored in their lockers this semester. In addition, all students should check the lost and found table and lunch coolers for items that might belong to them. We'd like for these 2 areas to be cleared out for break. Remaining items will be donated.
7th & 8th graders will take semester exams in core classes on Wednesday & Thursday. All students will follow a slightly modified schedule to ensure there is enough time for testing to take place. If your child will not be in attendance on either day, please make sure the office is aware so we can make other arrangements for finals to be taken.
Friday, December 20 is a 1:30 p.m. dismissal. We will have 3 different stations for students to enjoy before break! Students will return to school for the 2nd semester on Tuesday, January 7.

This week's Hawk Proud award was presented to Brynlee H. She was recognized for helping a senior with their lunch tray during the Senior Citizen Luncheon yesterday. Brynlee is always looking for ways to be helpful, and it is much appreciated!

There are two different opportunities this week to support our Meridian Music Department! The MMS & MHS Holiday Band Concert is scheduled for today at 2:30 p.m. The MMS & MHS Holiday Chorus Concert is schedule for Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. Both events will take place in the auditorium and are free for the public to attend!
Students will have the opportunity to sign up for another Casey's Pizza raffle this week! If interested, they can enter their name one time in any core classroom. On Friday, 30 names will be randomly drawn. If selected, the cost is $50 Hawk Bucks for 2 large slices of cheese pizza and a Pepsi product. The pizza will be provided during lunch on Tuesday, December 17.
The next FFA meeting for members is scheduled for Wednesday, December 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the Ag building.
