Our campaign runs from today through the end of the day on December 4. Please consider helping us to brighten someone's holiday with a donation this year!

Veteran's Day is always a day of thanks and remembrance for those who have selflessly served our country. While I am lucky enough, and thankful, to know a great many who have served, it is always a day in which I think of my dad. My dad served in Vietnam as a Captain in the U.S. Army. I can remember once asking him about why he chose to serve and his answer was simple, "because my country asked me to". My dad has never talked a lot about his time in the military but, when he has, I have always been able to see the unwavering pride he has. A few years ago, he and I had the opportunity to take part in one of the Land of Lincoln Honor Flights. It is a day I will always remember. I could see him light up as we made our way through all of the various sights; being saluted and thanked at the airport and the monuments by complete strangers. While it was a day to celebrate his, and others, service to our country, I also found it to be about a son getting the chance to spend the day with his hero; a sentiment I am quite sure was shared similarly by each guardian who accompanied a veteran that day.
So, on this Veteran's Day, thank you to all who have served this great country an d know that you are true heroes.
