A tessellation is a continuous pattern with no gaps or spaces. The 4th grade students created their own pattern and used their imagination to change the shape into a person, object or animal.

After looking at Vincent Van Gogh's paintings "Bedroom at Arles" and "The Chair" students completed a 3d pop out room.

Today will be the posting of the 4th grade artshow. The fourth grade students spent most of the year learning how use one point perspective in their landscapes. We learned about the art of Vincent Van gogh and also created a tessellation.

Change in meal distribution -
Beginning Monday, March 30th we will be adjusting our grab and go meal pick up schedule to fewer days in an effort to reduce the number of times people have to get out. Our new pick up days will be on Mondays and Wednesdays. We will give out multiple days at each pick up day. The distribution sites will remain the same and the times will remain from 11:15-12:30. The pick-up sites are MES, MMS, Boody Post Office, and Hyde Park office. Meals are available to all students at any of the locations and are FREE for all students.
Show us your favorite sport or team!!

Discovered flower designed by 3rd grade students.

3rd grade student were asked "If you were to discover a flower in the forest or jungle that had never been seen what do you think it would look like?" The students were to then draw a picture of their discovered flower. As a final step the students were paired up and collaborated together to create a "discovered flower" using 3d paper techniques. I am always surprised at how unbelievably imaginative our MES students are. These 3d flowers are amazing!

The 3rd grade classes did a series of activities teaching them how to mix colors to create, tints, shades, and values of colors. These paintings inspired by Georgia O'Keefe's flowers really show how much they know about mixing colors. They are beautiful.

The 3rd grade students spent several months learning about the work of American artist Georgia O'Keffe. By looking at many of her seashell paintings they then created their own seashells by blending with chalk pastels.

Prek and Kindergarten screenings are cancelled for now. We will reschedule once we return to school. Thanks.
Beautiful birds created by MES second grade using oil pastels.

The 2nd grade classes learned that "Pop" art was created by artists who produced art focusing on popular things of their time. Most were everyday things seen in popular culture such as grocery store items and celebrities. The students were to create their own version of their favorite snack.

Andy Warhol's first job as an artist was to illustrate shoes for a magazine. The 2nd grade student had a fun time taking their shoes off in class to draw their own shoes.

Printmaking like Andy Warhol. The second grade students created a printing plate (shown in center of work) using a piece of styrofoam. They then learned how to use a brayer and printing ink to pull a print. Their theme was a sweet treat.

Today we are continuing with our virtual art show. Second grade students did a series of projects after learning about the work of Andy Warhol.

I miss seeing these faces!

Let’s show our Meridian spirit this week!! Have a great week Hawks!
