What a weekend for Wyatt Martin at the IHSA State Golf Tournament!
Wyatt finished tied for 44th place out of 112 of the top 1A golfers in Illinois. That is an impressive accomplishment, and we couldn’t be prouder of him!
After the tournament, I had a chance to ask Wyatt a few questions about his experience. When asked how much time he spends working on his game during the offseason, he estimated 2–3 hours a day, seven days a week. While we see the impressive results on the course, it’s important to remember the time, effort, and dedication that go into reaching this level. Wyatt is a great example of how hard work can pay off.
I also asked what he enjoyed most about the weekend. He said he really enjoyed spending time with some of the other golfers before teeing off on the first day. For Wyatt, the anticipation of competing at State was one of the highlights. His favorite memory on the course? Making his first birdie on the third hole of day one!
We hope Wyatt was able to soak in the experience, enjoy the weekend, and take pride in everything he accomplished.
Congratulations, Wyatt! We’re proud of you and the work you put in to get here.

Today, Hawk Nation sent one of our own off to State!
There’s something special about being part of a small-town school. When one of our own gets the opportunity to do something special, we come together to support him/her.
This morning, all of our Fall athletes — from middle school through high school — lined the sidewalk outside the high school to give Wyatt Martin a proper send-off as he heads to Bloomington for the IHSA State Golf Tournament. (Video posted below.)
The golf clap was followed by a little AC/DC, and then Wyatt headed out with his grandparents, who are driving him up to Bloomington for his first practice round. His mom, Ashley, and dad, Craig, will meet them there. The family is doing their best to keep everything just like they did for the sectional tournament — same routine, same preparation, nothing to throw Wyatt off.
Coach Stielow will be up there with Wyatt throughout the tournament, offering a few pointers, helping him prepare, and most importantly, helping him keep those nerves under control and enjoy the experience.
From the entire Meridian athletic family — we’re proud of you, Wyatt. Go represent Meridian and enjoy every minute of it!

What a week it has been at Meridian! From Boys Volleyball and Powder Puff to our Homecoming Assembly filled with games, laughter, and school spirit, our students have made this week one to remember.
Tonight, we want to take that spirit beyond the school walls and into our community!
We are calling on all of Meridian to come out and line the streets for our Homecoming Parade tonight at 5:30 PM!
The parade will be escorted out of the school by our community first responders, travel down Wall Street, turn at Whit's End onto Front Street, then turn onto Glenn Street before heading back to Wall Street and finishing at the school.
Our fall athletes, students, coaches, and organizations will be out celebrating, and we want them to see the community that stands behind them.
Tomorrow, our football team takes on Pawnee at 11:00 AM. Our students have planned a Homecoming Tailgate Breakfast, and the day will continue with football, friends, and the Homecoming Dance.
But first, let's show our kids what it means to be part of Meridian.
You don't have to be a parent, an athlete, or even have a student in school to be part of this. This is OUR community, and our kids deserve to see us show up for them.
Bring the family. Find a spot along the route. Wave, cheer, and help us make some memories.

A special group of Meridian athletes came together today, and wanted to mix them together for a reason.
Both our softball and baseball teams made it to their Regional Championship games this Fall season. While neither team came away with the championship, both teams competed in high-stakes games and gave themselves a good chance to win.
These are some of the experiences we hope our student/athletes carry with them. The next time they find themselves in a big game, a big moment, a new activity, or a challenging situation in life, they can look back and know they have been there before. They know what it feels like to show up, compete, handle the pressure, and give their best.
