We had 143 students make the Academic Honors list for the 1st quarter... Our Hawks have been working HARD in the classroom! Congratulations to all the students who made Principal's List, High Honor Roll, and Honor Roll! Students on the Principal's List will be treated to donuts and juice before school on Thursday. Congratulations to this week's Hawk Proud recipient - Laylah A! Laylah was nominated by one of her teachers for helping a classmate with reading to ensure they could be productive together in class! Way to go, Laylah!
As a reminder, there is no student attendance on Thursday, October 23 and Friday, October 24 due to Parent/Teacher Conferences. Conferences have been scheduled in advance and will take place from 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The building will be closed on Friday.
1st quarter report card grades are finalized and available now to view through TeacherEase. There is an option to view the report card on the app by selecting "more" - "report cards" - "report card". A printed copy will be sent home with all students today along with last year's IAR report (6th - 8th grade) and ISA report (6th Grade). If you have any questions about academics, please do not hesitate to reach out to the appropriate teacher.
Next week is Red Ribbon Week. This year's national theme is - "Life is a Puzzle, Solve it Drug Free." The Student Council has planned different dress up days to enjoy next week while we celebrate living a healthy, drug-free life.
Picture retakes will take place first thing in the morning on Monday, October 27. Only the students who order or who were absent on the initial picture day will be photographed. Pictures can be ordered at inter-state.com/order using order code 0103KHU.
Monday starts the beginning of the 2nd quarter! 1st quarter report cards will be sent home with all students on Wednesday.
Scheduled parent/teacher conferences will take place from 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23. Team leaders have worked with MMS teachers to schedule requested conferences. As always, reach out to individual teachers with questions or concerns this quarter!

This month's FFA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. 8th graders in Discovery Ag (either semester) are welcome to attend. Reach out to Ms. Harp (harpa@meridianhawks.net) with questions.

Our 7th and 8th grade teams made the trip down to Shelbyville last night and they both came away with wins.
The 7th grade won 20 to 11. The 8th grade won 24 to 18.

Just a reminder that our Student Council Halloween Dance is TOMORROW night from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.! This free dance is for MMS students only, and guests are not permitted to attend. Students are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes, and there will be concessions available to purchase - Small bills are encouraged! The doors will open for students promptly at 7:00 p.m. and rides should be arranged to pick up at 9:00 p.m. sharp! We are looking forward to a fun and safe night!
A BIG congratulations to Jackson, who auditioned and was selected to represent MMS at this year's ILMEA District 5 Music Festival! He will perform this November at Eastern Illinois University alongside the best middle school musicians in the region. We're very proud of you!

Friday is the end of the 1st quarter. Report cards will be provided to all students on Wednesday, October 22. Please encourage your child to finish the quarter strong!
The Student Council Halloween dance is on Friday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the MMS gym. Students are encouraged to wear costumes. This dance is for MMS students only and is free to attend. There will be concession items available to purchase as well as a picture opportunity & costume contest. Students are asked to bring small bills. The doors will not open until 7:00 p.m., and we ask that rides are at the school for a prompt 9:00 p.m. pick up.

We are looking forward to our 1st annual "Operation Spirit Stick" activities at MMS tomorrow! Students will enjoy an obstacle course, decorate their own Homecoming shirt, and participate in some friendly competitions to get pumped up for the district Homecoming assembly! This day is made possible thanks to our Fall Raffle Fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who has already purchased a ticket to support MMS. Still need a ticket? The MMS Student Council walked some of the route during study hall today to help clean up after yesterday's parade as a community service project. Thank you to Mrs. Moyer, Mr. & Mrs. Cutler, and Officer Matt for helping to escort the students on this beautiful afternoon!
