Macon, IL — The Meridian Community Unit School District #15 Board of Education met Monday evening, March 16, to review district updates, recognize student achievements, and consider several projects and approvals.
Among the highlights of the meeting was a strong report on student and athletic accomplishments across the district. The high school boys basketball team ended its season with noticeable improvement, including a regional win over Okaw Valley. Junior, Bryce Brown, reached a major milestone, surpassing 1,000 career points, while several athletes earned all-conference honors.
The district also celebrated the success of the seventh-grade volleyball team, which advanced to the state tournament series after securing both regional and sectional titles. The team’s postseason run has generated excitement and pride throughout the school community.
Board members reviewed plans for facility improvements, including a proposed playground upgrade at Meridian Elementary School. The project would replace heavily worn grass areas with turf and install new rubber mulch around equipment to improve safety and usability. Additionally, the board approved a measure to seek bids for a roofing project covering portions of the elementary building.
In other business, the board approved annual memberships with the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA), as well as the sale of a 2002 Ford F-250.
Administrative reports highlighted ongoing academic initiatives and student engagement. Curriculum alignment work continues across grade levels, with professional development focused on literacy, technology, and instructional strategies. The district is also launching a pilot program with Heritage Behavioral Health Center to expand school-based mental health services.
At the elementary level, students recently participated in events such as the Scholastic Book Fair, Grandparents Week, and a Rube Goldberg competition at Richland Community College. Meanwhile, middle and high school students took part in assemblies focused on resilience and perseverance, along with state assessments.
Looking ahead, the board reviewed a draft of the 2027–2028 school calendar and received a budget update.
The meeting concluded with personnel considerations, including the approval of new hires Connor Daundivier (fifth grade), Amanda Miller (Pre-K aide), Lori Huggins (district bookkeeper), and Charley Hendricks (assistant softball coach).
The next regular meeting of the Meridian Board of Education is scheduled for April 20 at the district office.
