The Meridian CUSD #15 Board of Education held its regular May meeting on Monday, May 19. Information from administration was shared with the Board that included: (full administrative reports can be found on pages 2-6 at this link)
Spring sports are nearing an end. The high school softball team is hosting the regional. The baseball ended the season with a loss to Sullivan in the regional. The girls soccer team will play Rochester in the regional. The high school boys track team competes in the sectional this week. Nora Roush qualified for state in the high jump. Zada Dudley, Harper Ritter, Jensen Dawson, Hayden Crist, and Attison McNeeley all qualified for the middle school state track meet in East Peoria last weekend,
The elementary summer program will begin on June 3.
The last month at the middle school has been busy with awards ceremonies, music concerts, and activities to end the school year.
MHS also had an academic award ceremony in which over $68,000 of scholarships were awarded.
The Board accepted resignations from teachers Jerry Brockett and Anna Enlow.
The Board unanimously approved the following action items: the FY26 Consolidated District Plan, a field trip for the high school yearbook program, an IGA with the ROE for alternative education services, an engagement with Floyd & Associates for the FY25 audit, a tentative amended FY25 budget, a proposal for FY26 property/casualty insurance from Gallagher, and declared a piece of unused kitchen equipment as excess property so it can be sold. The Board also approved a performance contract with Veregy to update the HVAC control system in both buildings.
Personnel action items included the employment of eight summer school/program teachers. Additionally, Erin Miller was hired as a first grade teacher. Mrs. Miller joins the district with 17 years of experience and will transition to Meridian from the Sangamon Valley school district. Brandy Davis was hired as a paraprofessional at MES and will work with the Pre-K program. The following coaches were hired for next year: Justin Allen (HS boys basketball), Bill Miller (assistant football), Shannon Kirby (HS assistant volleyball), Mindy Marion (volunteer HS cheer), Matt Tangey (MS assistant baseball), and Chris Jones (volunteer MS baseball). Lastly, the Board took action on salary increases for FY26 for support staff, bringing base pay up to $18 per hour with adjustments for longer tenured employees accordingly. Building administrators received the same salary increase as other certified employees.
The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Monday, June 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Meridian District Office.
