July 22, 2025 – Macon, IL — The Meridian Community Unit School District #15 Board of Education convened for its regular meeting on Monday, July 21, 2025, focusing on preparations for the 2025-2026 school year with a series of key updates and approvals in staffing, athletics, facilities, and curriculum.
During the meeting, the Board approved bids for fuel and milk for the coming year, with Morgan Distributing and Prairie Farms named as providers. Legal counsel services will continue under the representation of Jeff Funk of Miller, Tracey, Braun, Funk & Miller, and financial institutions for deposits and investments will remain with People's Bank of Macon, First National Bank of Blue Mound, and Fidelity.
In support of student athletics and extracurricular growth, the Board also approved a facilities use request from the Meridian Junior Football League and discussed updates from the July 21 Athletic Committee meeting. Meridian’s athletic department has outlined clear goals for the year—focusing on athlete development, competitive excellence, and community engagement. New uniforms have been distributed for several sports, including volleyball, softball, and baseball. Projected numbers for fall sports remain strong across the board.
Staffing changes were addressed during the executive session, with approvals for new hires in support roles, including Katie Easley as the elementary school secretary and Jen Baggett-Pramuk and Amber Perkinson in paraprofessional positions. There were also several coaching appointments.
The district also announced the renewal of the Teacher Vacancy Grant, funded at $67,165 for the 2025-26 school year. This funding will support continued investment in classroom technology, professional development, and a new teacher mentoring program—all aimed at sustaining high-quality teaching and reducing turnover.
In preparation for the new school year, administrators provided updates on summer maintenance progress, curriculum work, and student registration. Maintenance crews are wrapping up cleaning and facility updates, while principals have finalized student schedules. Online registration begins August 4, with new student registration set for August 5.
At the elementary level, a structured discipline plan aligned with the "Discipline with Dignity" framework will be implemented in conjunction with the district’s new Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) model. The district’s curriculum team has also launched a dedicated web page for curriculum maps and formed an SEL team to support services across all schools.
Meridian High School’s incoming freshmen will be welcomed on August 7 for an orientation event, while staff in-service trainings are planned for August 15 and 18.
The next regular Board of Education meeting will be held Monday, August 11, 2025, at 6:30 PM at the Meridian CUSD #15 District Office.
