Meridian CUSD #15 Board of Education Takes Action on Key Summer Initiatives
June 24, 2025 — Macon, IL — The Meridian Community Unit School District #15 Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, June 23, 2025, addressing several key agenda items in preparation for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. The Board approved multiple initiatives focused on transportation upgrades, curriculum development, budget adjustments, and staff appointments.
Among the highlights, the Board approved the amended FY25 budget and authorized a transfer of $8,237.53 from the Hi-Tech Trust Fund to the Education Fund to support technology-related expenses. School fees will remain unchanged for the upcoming year, with continued participation in the Community Eligibility Program, ensuring all students receive one free breakfast and lunch daily.
A major transportation upgrade was also approved, with the purchase of three school buses coming off lease for a total of $234,500 and a minivan for district staff and small student groups, not to exceed $20,000.
The Board was updated on the IMSE Orton-Gillingham literacy training for K-2 teachers and specialists. This 30-hour training equips staff with research-backed, multisensory reading instruction aligned with the Science of Reading. The program will be used in K-2 classrooms beginning this fall.
Additionally, the Board approved key personnel hires for the 2025-2026 school year, including middle school science (Gracie Butler), social studies (Erin Moyer), and agriculture teacher (Jett Vickery), as well as a new student services coordinator (Carla Comerford). Coaching positions and club sponsors for the upcoming academic year were also confirmed.
The next regular Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 21, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the District Office.
