Board Meeting

The Meridian CUSD #15 Board of Education held its regular October meeting on Monday, October 16, 2023.  Information from administration was shared with the Board that included: (all administrative reports can be found on pages 2-6 on this link)

  • Fall sports are nearing completion and winter sports will soon begin.

  • Red Ribbon Week will be held October 23 - 27. 

  • Parent-teacher conferences will be held next week.

  • Students in the elementary and middle schools participated in an assembly with Parker “Basketball” Jones about positive thinking, kindness, and working hard. 

  • The middle school raffle fundraiser is currently underway and will conclude this week.

  • The high school will soon be hosting various community based service projects that include: Coats for Kids, Toys for Tots, a canned food drive, and participation in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.

In action items, the Board approved the Annual Financial Report and Audit, which was completed by Floyd and Associates.  The auditor stated that “the financial statements referred to above present fairly, in all material respects, the assets, liabilities, and fund balances arising from cash transactions of Meridian CUSD #15 as of June 30, 2023, and its revenues received and expenditures disbursed during the fiscal year then ended, in accordance with the financial reporting provisions prescribed and permitted by the Illinois State Board of Education.”  

The Board also took action to revise student handbook policy that pertained to disciplinary consequences associated with illegal activity outside of the school day.  Additionally, the Board approved concrete and drainage work to the east of the new agriculture facility.  The work will include a concrete driveway to service the baseball field, an accessible sidewalk for access to the restrooms, a sidewalk with drainage around the baseball concession stand, and additional curbing to eliminate a current washout area adjacent to the parking lot.

Lastly, the Board approved the review of executive session minutes to determine that all content qualified as executive session material.  Approval of the district’s Risk Management Plan and action on the employment of a school nurse were tabled to gather additional information. 

The next regularly scheduled meeting is on Monday, November 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Blue Mound Township Building in Boody, located at 5758 Railroad St.
