As we begin preparing for remote learning, here is a helpful Google Classroom video created by Mrs. Campbell. This video shows what the students see on Google Classroom vs. what the parents see on the parent summary. Helpful advice: -Login to Google Classroom as your child (using your child's username and password). This will allow you to see detailed assignments and if your child has turned the assignments in. -Download the Google Classroom App on your phone or tablet. If you turn notifications on, this will alert you when a teacher posts assignment and/or returns an assignment to your child. Other questions? Please don't hesitate to ask! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTCQzeuTL6U&feature=youtu.be

During this time of year, we typically welcome and encourage our parents/guardians to come in for the MMS Open House. This not only gives you the opportunity to spend a few minutes following your child's daily schedule, but you can also meet the classroom teachers and hear of our expectations and curriculum for each subject. We aren't able to host our traditional open house under the current guidelines, so the middle school teachers have put together videos/presentations for a virtual open house. Please take the time to "get to know" your child's teachers by clicking on the links on the attached document. Videos are also available on each teacher's web page and can be accessed at www.meridianhawks.net. https://5il.co/kscp

Planbook links are accessible on teacher web pages and can also be viewed here - https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/901719/MMS_Planbook_Links_2021.pdf

Any questions can be directed to Paula Ray (email@example.com or (217) 764-3896) at the Bus Garage or myself. It is very important that your child knows his or her bus number before reporting to school on the first day. The first day of student attendance for all learners is Monday, August 31. On this day, students who are registered to begin the year in-person will receive Chromebooks, textbooks, and the student planner. In addition, we will use core periods to watch back-to-school "boot camp" videos created to communicate overall school expectations that may look a little different this year. With softball & baseball seasons currently underway, our goal at Meridian is to provide a safe playing field for all athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators. To maintain that high level of safety and to ensure that we can proceed with these seasons and those that follow, our conference athletic directors met to establish universal guidelines that were communicated to all players and parents/guardians. From those guidelines, it is important to note the following: -Players, coaches, and spectators should maintain social distance by being 6 feet apart. To help with this, we have removed the spectator bleachers from both fields. -Spectators are limited to 2 people per player and all non-participants should wear a mask at all times. This includes athletes while on the bus and while sitting in the dugout. -If an athlete, coach, official, or spectator has any of the COVID-19 symptoms, is currently suffering from COVID-19, or has recently been in contact with someone who has tested positive, that individual (and those in the household) should not come to the game. If someone who attends a game tests positive for COVID-19, a roster with head of household contact information will be provided to the host team for contact tracing. We know our sporting events look different today because of these unprecedented times. We are hopeful, however, that our kids can successfully play ball under these guidelines. Thank you in advance for not only cooperating with these guidelines, but for also discussing them with your child.
Good luck to both our MMS baseball and softball teams as they kick off the season tomorrow against Monticello! Per conference guidelines, spectators should be limited to 2 people per athletes, must wear a mask, and should practice social distancing. Go Hawks!

The IESA made the difficult decision today to cancel middle school baseball, softball, golf, & cross country for the 2020-2021 school year. While this is news we are sad to hear, the health & safety of all our athletes and coaches is our #1 concern. We are proud of our athletes and will continue to cheer on all students academically this year! Go Hawks!

Mr. Hurelbrink will be sending out an email this afternoon regarding sports physicals offered this summer at MHS for 7th & 8th grade athletes. Incoming 6th grade students do not need a separate sports physical. The health physical required for all 6th grade students will cover athletes this year (the athletic physical does not, however, count as the health physical). Physicals (athletic/health) must be on file before the student can participate in the sport season. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (217) 764-3367 with any questions!
A Remote Learning Parent survey was sent out last week by Mr. Pygott via email. Through data collected, we are hoping to gain as much information as possible regarding the implementation of Meridian's Remote Learning Day plan. If you are a parent/guardian of a Meridian student and haven't already done so, please complete the survey by Friday, June 5. If you did not receive the survey link, please email email@example.com. Thank you in advance!!
Currently, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA), Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Health are working on guidelines allowing for student athletes and coaches to begin in person workouts. As these guidelines have become more clear, our district administrative team, athletic directors, and athletic trainer have begun framing the necessary procedures and protocols to be followed. Once these are complete, student athletes and parents will be provided a copy along with a sign off sheet. Ideally, we will have these in place and ready for a June 1 resumption of in person workouts/training. When these in person workouts/training begin, they will, undoubtedly, be much different than they were before. It will be up to the student athlete and coach to ensure all of the proper protocols and procedures are followed in order for us to be able to continue through the summer months. Below, we are providing you with some preliminary information pertaining to these in-person workouts/training. This information has also been provided to coaches, as well. -No team or individual, under any circumstance should be required to attend any workout or training. These will be strictly volunteer -No team is to organize any workout or training until they have received consent from the proper district administrator. No workout or training should take place before June 1, at the earliest -Every effort will be made to ensure social distancing and limited, if any, contact with others. -There will be a symptom check component in place Groups of student athletes/coaches will be limited to a maximum of 10 at any one time. Once all procedures have been determined, these will be distributed amongst coaches, athletes and families. In the meantime, we ask for everyone's patience as we work towards this goal.
For the months of May & June, office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. If you are planning to stop by the school, please call ahead to ensure someone will be in the office! We hope all our MMS families have a great summer!

IESA made the difficult announcement today that they will cancel all remaining IESA state series activities for the 2019 - 2020 school year. For our school, this includes both Scholastic Bowl and Track & Field. While this is very disappointing for all of us to hear, the health and safety of our students & families is much more important than the interscholastic activities. We are proud of all our Hawk athletes and look forward to watching them compete in 2020 - 2021!

After today’s announcement by Governor Pritzker, we will plan for school to be closed until April 8. During this time, we will continue to provide lunch. Students should continue to check email and Google Classroom daily. If you have subject specific questions, please email that teacher directly. We will continue to update you as information becomes available. Keep up the great work! 💚 #wearemeridian
Have you complete your 2020 Census? If not, it can be completed online by visiting https://2020census.gov/en.html. If you have a child at home, involve them in the process. Use this experience to explain the importance of completing a census every 10 years - other than the fact that it is required by law and in the Constitution! The results will determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives and also helps to determine federal funding for schools hospitals, fire departments, etc. https://2020census.gov/en.html?fbclid=IwAR2aP8vLwmJM-SzaN1Yjj1KelT0iPnJdzQf1zO-HqpggM-6-1tboDc4yRzk
