Today is Teacher Appreciation Day and I am proud to say the staff at MHS is top notch. Thank you for working hard for our students, no matter the circumstances.
Today I am proud to recognize two young ladies who were selected as MHS honorees for the Central Illinois Conference Student Recognition. Jesse Damery and Alexandra Martin have both embodied the spirit of academic achievement and athletic participation our conference promotes in student athletes. Jesse is the daughter of Brian and Mindy Damery. Jesse has been involved in volleyball and softball during her 4 years. On the softball field, Jesse has earned all county, all conference and all state honors. Jesse is co-valedictorian of the senior class and has been an active member of NHS, Student Council and SADD. Jesse will attend the U of I in the fall and will play softball for the Illini. Alexandra Martin is the daughter of Angie Carmean and Jeff Martin. She has played volleyball, soccer and has been a cheerleader for four years and has also been active in National Honor Society, SADD and Student Council. Alexandra will attend Indiana State University in the fall as part of their honors program. Girls- I am so proud of you and all you have done for Meridian. I am sorry I won’t be able to solve all of your issues at lunch any longer but, hopefully, I gave you some sage advice to take with you!

Today Ella Snow and Madeline Klinger would have been recognized at the Macon County Principal’s Student Recognition lunch. Both of these young ladies are at the top of their class and are a vital part of Meridian High School. Ella’s activities include cheer, NHS, SADD, and she’s an Illinois State Scholar. Ella will attend EIU in the fall. Madeline’s activities include basketball, soccer, NHS, co-valedictorian and an Illinois State Scholar. Madeline will attend Millikin. Congrats girls! I know I promised you lunch with me but this is the best I can do right now!
Students and Parents - please be advised, Gov. Pritzker has extended his previous executive order through April 30. This means all e-learning will continue throughout April. Please stay safe and stay busy.
Today’s “stay at home” order will keep school closed through 4/7. Meals will continue to be provided and our admin team will provide more information over the weekend regarding this extended closure.
Students- just a reminder you will want to take all materials/books/chrome book home tomorrow after school. Check your school email daily.

PSA regarding boys basketball this weekend. 1/24 @ Shelbyville will have a shortened JV game at 6pm so the varsity game will start early. Saturday 1/25 @Monticello JV starts at 5:30 with Varsity at 7.
Boys varsity will play at St Teresa tomorrow afternoon 1/18. JV at 2pm with varsity at approx 3:30

On Monday, September 30, Meridian HS and the Meridian Booster Club will be taking donations in light of the tragic event resulting in the death of a young student in the Sullivan school district. At the home JV football game vs Sullivan, and the volleyball game vs Edinburg, we will be accepting donations at the entrances to each venue. In light of Friday’s tragedy in Sullivan, many schools are showing their support for the student’s family by wearing blue tomorrow, which was Tyson's favorite color. Meridian District would like to join this support by asking students and staff to wear blue to school tomorrow.
