Dear Meridian Parents, Our district’s transportation department has struggled since the beginning of the school year with staffing levels attributed to COVID-19. From staff members with positive test results, contact tracing quarantines and/or the care of family members in quarantine, our transportation department has not been fully staffed and in efficient operation since the first day of school. We sincerely regret the delays that have taken place and the inconsistencies in bus service expectations among our parents and students. In many cases, the staffing shortage has been unpredictable and sudden. Regrettably, we have also been hampered by sudden employee resignations due to additional work expectations placed on individuals that were not equipped to handle it. We have been hopeful that as each new week approaches, our staffing levels would return to the necessary level to adequately address the bus transportation needs of our students and parents. We remain optimistic that this will occur and that we will be able to return to normal daily bus route procedures and expectations. We continue to work on resolving these issues and apologize for the inconvenience this results in. We appreciate your patience and understanding for bus schedule changes that occur due to this. Sincerely, Andy Pygott, Superintendent Meridian CUSD #15

Due to a staffing shortage for district transportation, various bus routes will be impacted regarding their normal pick up and drop off times. Each school will do their best to provide contact for changes that may impact a student's drop off time at the end of the school day. Please be patient with us as we work through this current issue. Thanks!

During the Remote Only Instruction period to end the 2nd quarter, we are respectfully requesting that parents/guardians of Meridian students contact the school office for any COVID-19 positive test results for a Meridian student during this time in order to maintain accurate records for both students and staff of the Meridian School community. Meridian CUSD #15 Board of Education Media Release Re: Remote Learning Adjustment At the request of Superintendent Andy Pygott, the Meridian CUSD #15 District will be switching to Remote-Only instruction beginning on Monday November 30, 2020 for the remainder of the first semester. In-person instruction is currently planned to continue at Meridian CUSD #15 until Thanksgiving break. At this time, it is planned that the start of the second semester in January will return back with a resumption of both in-person instruction and remote instruction. The Meridian CUSD #15 Board of Education and Administrative Team realizes that getting this message out as soon as possible is extremely important for parents, students, staff, faculty, and administrators to be able to plan and temporarily adjust. The reasoning behind this temporary adjustment was not due to a high percentage of positive cases of COVID-19, or due to a sudden escalation of COVID-19 cases in the Meridian CUSD #15 District. Currently, the percentage of positive student COVID-19 cases for the Meridian CUSD #15 District stands around 1% for the 2020-2021 school year. With the diligence & frequency in cleaning activities, and other protocols in place, it has been noted that our school buildings are not likely the source of COVID19 when a positive result arises, but instead appears to be a case to where COVID-19 may have been carried into our school buildings. The cleaning and protocols that have been in place have proven to make our schools a safe place, and to greatly reduce the risk of further spread of the virus. The primary reasons behind this adjustment were due to: The elevated amount of staff and students in the Meridian CUSD #15 District being placed in quarantine due to Contact Tracing, and the challenges that reality is presenting. The heightened risk for the COVID-19 virus to spread during the time between Thanksgiving and the end of the first semester, when there will likely be more gatherings among people as a result of the Holiday Season. One of biggest ongoing challenges that the Board is informed about, from many within the Meridian CUSD #15 District, deals with, in some form or another, remote instruction. Whether that be from student engagement, students struggling to learn, lack of technology or technology experience within student homes, or extra burdens to our teachers, staff, and administrators. With the amount of issues regarding remote instruction, it is understood that adding more remote instruction will not alleviate or ultimately solve that problem, and is not in the best long-term interests of our students. While open to making this temporary adjustment, the mindset of the Board throughout this school year is to take every opportunity to strive towards maintaining, or getting back, to seeing our students educated in the manner that a great many of those served within our District are accustomed to and expect.
On Monday September 28, students that were enrolled as in person instruction will return to school. The same requirements for in person attendance are in place that were followed before the suspension of in person attendance at each school building. Students are required to wear a face mask when boarding and riding a school bus along with wearing a face mask while in the school building. In addition, all students with the assistance of their parents will need to self certify each day using the Tyler SIS 360 phone app, by home computer on SIS or with the paper copies provided by the school. Please ensure that your student is healthy to attend school each day and promptly report any issues of a quarantine period that may have been required of your student other than the school reported cases on Saturday September 12 and Sunday September 13. As a reminder, students will still follow the same early dismissal schedule from all buildings. If you have any questions related to your student’s attendance for either in person or remote learning, please contact your student’s school office and principal. We look forward to the return of students with in person instruction and hope that we are able to remain open for student attendance. The health and safety of our students and staff members is a top priority! We will continue to do our part to help maintain a safe and healthy school environment. GO HAWKS!!
