6th & 7th gr Awards Night- Thursday May 16 7 pm Auditorium. Invitation letters sent to students/parents if receiving and Academic Award. Students and parents should plan to attend this special recognition evening.
Applications for Student Council officer positions are now available in the office and in Mrs. McGuire's room. Applications are due to Mrs. McGuire by Wednesday, May 15. The election will take place electronically during Study Hall on Friday, May 17. Current 6th grade students can run for either Vice President or Secretary. Current 7th grade students can run for either President or Treasurer. Students do not currently have to be in Student Council to run for an officer position for the 2019-2020 school year.
Is your 7th grade student interested in going to Washington DC next year? There will be an informational meeting after the 6th & 7th grade Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 16th in the auditorium. Information will be sent home with all 7th grade students prior to the meeting. The Illinois Assessment of Readiness Testing (IAR) begins on Tuesday March 19 for Middle School students. Testing schedule provided with the last Newsletter for students; all students mus have earbuds/headphones for testing days (wireless earbuds not permitted).
Pennies for Patients Drive to collect spare change from now until March 19. Charitable proceeds benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and their research/treatment efforts for blood related cancers that affects children. Please donate & donate again!!

The Student Council sponsored Valentine's Day dance is Friday, February 18 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the MMS gym. The dance is for MMS students only. There will be concession items and pictures available to purchase. All items are $1.00 so smaller bills are appreciated!
Valentine Candy Grams are now on sale during both lunch periods at MMS! The cost is $2.00 per SWEET treat and will be distributed to students on February 14. If you would like to order a Candy Gram for your child, please email Mrs. McGuire at email@example.com.

The 6th grade girls' volleyball tournament at Argenta-Oreana for Saturday Jan. 19 has been cancelled due to the weather forecast. Still waiting for information from the host school for the 7th grade boys' basketball Regional game at Hillsboro.
District Spelling Bee: Tuesday January 29 @ 9:00 am; MS/HS Auditorium The top 8 spellers in grades 4th-8th compete for the chance to move on to the County Spelling Bee at Richland CC in February!
The MS Boys' Basketball game for Saturday Jan. 12 vs Clinton at 10:30 (home) is cancelled and will be rescheduled due to the weather forecast. Girls' Volleyball at Edinburg is also cancelled and will be rescheduled to finish the tournament. Stay safe!
Meridian Middle School students dismissed at 1:30 today (Friday Dec 21) for Christmas/Holiday Break. Students return on Tuesday Jan 8, 2019. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Student Council will have Semester Exam Survival Kits available for students to purchase before school on Wednesday and Thursday. The cost is $4 and will include bottled water, a Rice Krispy treat, granola bar, bag of cookies, and fruit snacks. Students can enjoy these snacks in the classroom during our exam schedules. Are you great at trivia? Do you want a fun after school activity? Try-outs for the 2019 MMS scholastic bowl team will take place tonight and tomorrow night from 2:45-3:45 in Ms. Deckard's room. Students only need to come to one night. Email Ms. Deckard for details!

Join us for Pack the Place night on Thursday, December 6th when our boys' basketball teams take on the Monticello Sages. The first game will start at 6:00 p.m. in the MMS gym. Student Council will have walking tacos for sale and a 50/50 drawing. Proceeds from 50/50 will be donated to help with tornado relief efforts in Taylorville. MMS Students - don't forget to sign in! The first 50 students will receive a Meridian Hawks wristband. Go Hawks!

Make plans to support our Lady Hawks at Pack the Place Night on Tuesday! Student Council will have nachos available to purchase. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and both class & individual attendance prizes! MMS students need to make sure to stop by the attendance table to enter! The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open. First game starts at 6:00 p.m.
Congratulations to the 8th grade for being the first team to reach their goal for the MJHS Food Drive. Currently they have 339 cans, followed by the 7th grade with 217. The 6th grade, at 206 cans has made up a lot of ground! Remember, there's just two more days!
Day two of the MJHS Food Drive is in the books, and the race is close! The 7th grade is in the lead with 169 cans, followed closely by the 8th grade at 136 cans! The 6th grade made up a lot of room today, bringing their number up to 112. Keep up the great work!
Thanks to all who donated and made the annual Socktober Sock Drive such a success. Student Council will be donating 260 pairs of new sock to Northeast Community Fund!
Wednesday, October 31 is the last day for students to turn in socks for the Socktober Sock Drive. Students are encouraged to wear crazy socks tomorrow (Tuesday) in support of Red Ribbon week and Socktober.
Halloween Candy Grams are currently on sale during both lunch periods at MMS! The cost is $2.00 each and will include a full size Hershey bar and a special Halloween message. Student Council will pass the candy grams out during study hall on 10/31. If you are interested in sending your child a Halloween Gram, email Mrs. McGuire at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Meridian Middle School Student Council will host a Halloween dance for MMS students on Saturday, October 27. The dance will take place in the MMS gym from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. This is a costume dance, so students are encouraged to dress up. There will be snacks, drinks, and picture opportunities available for students to purchase.
Middle School Fall Fundraiser items to be delivered to students on Wednesday- including Cookie Dough. Students that ride a bus with large orders may need to consider alternative transportation home to help with orders. All student prize items provided when order money turned in!
High School Homecoming Parade- Wednesday September 26; leaves school parking lot at 6:00 pm. Friday September 28: Green & White Spirit Day for all Meridian students. GO HAWKS!!
