In Mrs. Hadowsky's art class the first grade classes have been learning about the art work of artist George Seurat. They are painting with cotton swabs to better understand how Seurat would use dots to mix colors. His most famous pointillism painting took him 2 years to complete. Hopefully these 1st graders finish much sooner.

Nathan got to be the teacher today! He taught us all about snap circuits Snap circuits are a great toy that get the students involved in electricity and engineering!
Today, 3rd grade had the pleasure of having Mr. Stevens, a Decatur firefighter, come in and talk with us. He spoke about what a typical day of a fire fighter looks like. In addition, he brought his uniform in to educate the importance each piece serves in protecting him. It was a great way to prepare us for our fire safety talk happening later this week!
In light of Friday’s tragedy in Sullivan, many schools are showing their support for the student’s family by wearing blue tomorrow, which was Tyson's favorite color. Meridian District would like to join this support by asking students and staff to wear blue to school tomorrow.

Fridays are for STEM challenges! We learned about the engineering design process with an apple challenge. Students had to partner up and make an "Apple Trapper" to pick up the apples in the orchard. The students displayed great team work! Together they brainstormed ideas, built a prototype, tested it, and modified their designs. Great work, everyone!

Meridian Preschool Screening Meridian School District will hold preschool screenings for this coming school year on Thursday, August 2nd. If you live in the Meridian school district and have a child who will be 3 years of age by September 1st, 2018, they are eligible to be screened for this free program. Screening will take place at Meridian Elementary School located at 509 Lewis St. in Blue Mound. Screening appointments are available beginning at 8:00 a.m. Children are tested on concepts, motor skills and language skills. Parents will fill out paperwork while children are being tested. You may set up an appointment starting Friday, July 13th by calling Mrs. Reed at 217-972-3039. Screening does not guarantee a spot in the program.
