Students Learning to Code

Students were introduced to STEM for the first time and we didn't start out slow.  We jumped right into a project concerning how to code.  Students "explored" on day one with questions: "What makes the mouse complete a series of events?  How far does the mouse go as a step?  How do I make the mouse go forward, backward, right and left?  How do I make the mouse do a complete different series of events?"  On Day two, three, and four, students will be asked to create a specific code of events that the mouse follows in order to achieve a goal of reaching its cheese.  This will require the students to know how far the mouse travels and the sequence of coded events for the mouse to arrive.  Finally, students will set up an obstacles for the mouse to avoid and still achieve the goal of reaching the cheese.  STEM is a very exciting time in our classroom.
